Custom Vampire Bat Engagement Ring
She said YES! A client asked for a custom sculpt with custom stones that contained materials symbolic to he and his partner. I worked with him to find a way to make this happen. I ended up making “stones” out of resin, sand and meteorite dust! I studies bats for quite some time as he wanted it to be hyperrealistic. It wasn’t easy to pack all that detail into a ring that is wearable!
The original clay sculpt. Many jewelers would have used wax but I am more comfortable working in clay. I made a mold of this and cast it in resin so that I could bend it into a ring shape.
The resin casting of the original clay sculpt. I used this to refine the shape of the ring and the fit.
Graphite on Silk Seascape: Collaboration with Woodworker Joseph Tracy
I was so humbled and honored when Joe asked me to collaborate with him. Joseph Tracy is a renowned woodworker on Mount Desert Island, ME and his pieces are highly coveted and collected in the architecturally stunning homes around the area as well as museums including the Museum of Fine Art in Boston. Our collaboration is on display at The Gallery at Somes Sound. https://www.galleryatsomessound.com/artists/item/josephy-tracy
Custom Anniversary Ring
Size 4 custom LOTR inspired fox ring.
Due to the customer’s small ring size and the requested aesthetic, this ring was incredibly tricky to work with in wax. I ended up creating my own technique using the principles of filigree, using fine silver wire because the wax kept breaking as I worked. I sculpted the fox head and a thin ring shape in wax, cast it into silver and then soldered wire over it for the wrapped vine elements.
Seen here cutting off my circulation as even my pinkie is bigger than size 4. I don’t have any plans to be a hand model.
