5. Costume Designer/Fabricator: AstroNOT
My first role on AstroNOT was to design and fabricate, on a teeny budget, two hero space suits and 5 background character suits that looked homemade. This was a dream job for me. Based on the director’s look bible I gathered piles of junk from thrift stores and got to work cobbling together costumes for this rag-tag group of AstroNOTs.
The objective was to make spacesuits that could never function in space, but had the grit and spirit of a lost soul who would do anything to make it to the moon. You would never know it but that’s me as the purple astronaut, patching a hole in Evan’s suit with purple duct tape.
I don’t know what NASA’s deal is. Vintage jumpsuits and random tubes are all you really need to make a spacesuit.
A 5 gallon bucket, a wetsuit and some knee pads help too.
